Speciation of zinc in microliter volumes of plant sap by capillary HPLC-ICP-MS

چکیده
Many metals are very important for normal plant growth and development. One of these metals is zinc – typically the second most abundant transition metal in organisms and a substantial micronutrient that plays different roles in plant physiology. Zinc is an essential component of over 300 enzymes. It is responsible for gene regulation and stabilization of protein structure including Zn fingers, Zn clusters and RING finger domains. It is also involved in essential processes such as photosynthesis and CO2 fixation. Excess or deficiency of zinc in plants leads to high plant mortality, reduced and stunted growth, chlorosis, necrosis, small leaves and delay in flowering. All of these symptoms may cause serious implications for food security because of the significant reduction of crop yields that is correlated to zinc availability [1-3]. Application of a new HPLC-ICP-MS method for simultaneous determination of Al3+ and aluminium fluoride complexes
The paper presents the new HPLC-ICP-MS method used for conducting speciation analysis of aluminum as free Al(3+) and aluminum fluoride complexes during one analysis. In the study, 5% HNO3 was used as a derivative reagent in order to minimize the possibility of clogging the torch in ICP-MS. Using the new HPLC-ICP-MS method, speciation analysis of aluminum and aluminum fluoride complexes was cond...
متن کاملChromatographic speciation of anionic and neutral selenium compounds in Se-accumulating Brassica juncea (Indian mustard) and in selenized yeast.
Selenium-accumulating plants such as Brassica juncea (Indian mustard) concentrate the element in plant shoots and roots. Such behavior may provide a cost-effective technology to clean up contaminated soils and waters that pose major environmental and human health problems (phytoremediation). Such ability to transform selenium into bioactive compounds has important implications for human nutriti...
متن کاملA study of arsenic speciation in soil, irrigation water and plant tissue: A case study of the broad bean plant, Vicia faba.
Samples of soil, the broad bean plant, Vicia faba and irrigation water were collected from the same agricultural site in Dokan, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Total arsenic and arsenic speciation were determined in all materials by ICP-MS and HPLC-ICP-MS, respectively. Available arsenic (11%) was also determined within the soil, together with Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn, Fe and Mn. The concentrations ...
متن کاملQuantitative HPLC-ICP-MS analysis of antimony redox speciation in complex sample matrices: new insights into the Sb-chemistry causing poor chromatographic recoveries.
In solution antimony exists either in the pentavalent or trivalent oxidation state. As Sb(III) is more toxic than Sb(V), it is important to be able to perform a quantitative speciation analysis of Sb's oxidation state. The most commonly applied chromatographic methods used for this redox speciation analysis do, however, often show a low chromatographic Sb recovery when samples of environmental ...
متن کاملCellular processing of gold nanoparticles: CE-ICP-MS evidence for the speciation changes in human cytosol
The cellular uptake of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) may (or may not) affect their speciation, but information on the chemical forms in which the particles exist in the cell remains obscure. An analytical method based on the use of capillary electrophoresis hyphenated with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has been proposed to shed light on the intracellular processing of AuNPs...
